SELMA – Two siblings landed in jail after a bizarre chase through the Selma city limits. Ty-Quan Kamil Dublin, age 24, of Selma and his sister, Ty-Niasa Dublin, age 22, of Smithfield are facing charges.
It started around 10:30pm Sunday, Dec. 18th when a Selma police officer saw Ty-Quan Dublin get into a car. A warrant had recently been issued for his arrest for failing to appear in court.
The officer attempted to stop his car on US 70 westbound at I-95, however Dublin reportedly failed to pull over. Dublin turned onto Ricks Road, and then onto S. Pollock Street, reaching speeds of 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. Police suspected Dublin was trying to get to his home on Dogwood Circle.
While headed in that direction, pursuing officers said a car began following them and interfering with the pursuit. On multiple occasions the car nearly struck Selma patrol cars and attempted to get between marked patrol cars and the vehicle Ty-Quan Dublin was driving, according to a police report.
Police said the chase ended in front of Dublin’s home on Dogwood Circle. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The vehicle reportedly interfering with the chase also stopped on Dogwood Circle. Police identified that driver as Ty-Niasa Dublin, the sister of Ty-Quan Dublin. She reportedly told officers she was trying to intervene with the pursuit to make sure her brother got home safe.
Ty-Quan allegedly told officers he did not immediately stop so he could call his mother to allow her time to wake up so she could be outside when he stopped.
Ty-Quan Dublin was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, driving on a revoked license, and reckless driving. He was also served with the warrant for arrest. Bail was set at $25,000.
Ty-Niasa Dublin was charged with reckless driving to endanger and misdemeanor resisting, obstructing and delaying. She was held under a $10,000 secured bond.
Are you serious 25,000 dollars for fleeing to elude a police. The magi do much had been in a very good mood that night…
They let child abuse and rapes go for 1500. You can see who they care about.
Kid flees bc he wanted witnesses and his mother. Should have turned on hazards at least if this is true. Guess he was worried he’d be another statistic as a black male. Can’t blame him. He’s not wrong.
JohnG the 24 year old adult was wrong and so are you.
He became a statistic when he broke the law.
Did he run to mommy when he was arrested the first time?
Tough guy running to mommy and sister to help the criminal. And JohnG, you arent real bright.
Well the law states even if you acknowledge law enforcement is pulling you over you can only drive so far, 2 miles I believe it is could be wrong, before law enforcement has the right to treat you as if you are fleeing. And if he complied with all orders and didn’t resist how would he become another statistic? I forgot all law enforcement officers are just blood thirsty savages
Tsk tsk tsk
I would’ve did the same thing for my brother
And hopefully….you would have been arrested as well.
Looks like you were running from english class already.
JohnG we are praying for people like you..smh
