Report: Teen Crashes SUV At 125 MPH During Pursuit

BENSON – An 18 year-old driver is lucky to be alive after crashing a rental vehicle at approximately 125 miles per hour during a high speed pursuit.

Antonio Howard Ferguson of Garner was transported to the hospital following the violent crash at 3:27am Wednesday, June 19 on Raleigh Road south of NC 210.

Minutes earlier, around 3:14am, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a nearby subdivision. A deputy arrived in the area to find a red 2022 Jeep Cherokee traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop.

The operator of the Jeep allegedly tried to strike the deputy’s patrol car. The officer lost sight of the Jeep but later spotted the SUV on Raleigh Road and once again attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as Ferguson, reportedly accelerated to speeds of approximately 130 miles per hour. While traveling in the 5200 block of Raleigh Road, Ferguson lost control of the Jeep, ran off the road and went airborne, struck a utility pole, and overturned several times.

According to a Highway Patrol report, Ferguson was originally traveling at 130 mph and was still traveling at an estimated 125 mph at impact.

Ferguson was treated and released at WakeMed before being transported to the Johnston County Detention Center.

Officers located a Shih Tzu in the wrecked SUV. The small dog was reportedly not physically harmed.

Ferguson was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, assault on a government official, speeding, cruelty to animals, reckless driving, failure to comply with license restrictions, failure to burn headlamps, failure to stop for a stop sign, and failure to maintain lane control.

He was held under a $300,000 secured bond.

  1. Too bad he was treated at any medical facility. Why should the taxpayers pay for his medical problems. He did not care about the Deputy he tried to hit, or he did not think about other people he could have killed along his death ride. Too bad he survived; he is just going to be a burden on taxpayers for the rest of his life.

  2. So glad the dog was not hurt. Sorry that Antonio Howard Ferguson wasn’t hurt worse, to be honest.
