Report: Woman Sold Vehicle She Did Not Own

SMITHFIELD – A 64 year-old Smithfield woman is facing criminal charges. Gladys Mae Sanders, also known as Gladys Mae Meeks, of N. Seventh Street, was arrested March 16 and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, and obtaining property by false pretense.

On December 20, 2022, a 39 year-old Selma woman reported a 1995 Dodge Ram pickup truck had been stolen from an address in the 800 block of Cleveland Road near Smithfield. The stolen truck was later found near Clayton.

The person who had possession of the truck, did not know it was stolen. He reportedly told deputies he purchased it from Sanders for $200. He returned the truck to the victim and was not criminally charged, according to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Sanders was held on a $30,000 secured bond.
