Rusty Clawson Named Clayton’s Assistant Public Works Director

CLAYTON – Rusty Clawson has been promoted to Assistant Public Works Director for the Town of Clayton. With more than 15 years of public service, Clawson brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the Town’s infrastructure needs to this leadership role.

Clawson began his career with the Clayton Fire Department in 1995, serving more than two decades before transitioning to Public Works in 2017. As Streets Maintenance Superintendent, he worked to improve roads and public infrastructure, keeping them safe and accessible. In his new role as Assistant Public Works Director, he will lead the Streets and Grounds Maintenance Divisions, overseeing daily operations and planning for long-term improvements.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to continue serving the Town of Clayton in a new capacity,” said Clawson. “Public Works is more than just roads and infrastructure. It is about supporting the people who live and work here every day. I look forward to working alongside a dedicated team to find innovative solutions, enhance our services, and ensure Clayton remains a great place to call home.”

Public Works provides many essential services that residents rely on daily, including road and sidewalk maintenance, sanitation, stormwater management, and public space upkeep. The department also supports emergency response efforts, working alongside first responders to clear roads and repair infrastructure during storms and other extreme weather events.

Clawson’s extensive experience and dedication to Public Works will continue to drive these efforts forward. Public Works Director Tim Robbins highlighted Clawson’s contributions.

“Rusty has been a valuable member of the Public Works team for many years,” said Robbins. “His in-depth knowledge of infrastructure and his commitment to the Town make him an excellent fit for this position. He is focused on improving services and will work to make certain that our public spaces, roads, and sidewalks meet the needs of the community.”

As Clayton continues to evolve, maintaining and upgrading its systems remains a priority. The Public Works Department helps drive this effort by focusing on upkeep and planning for future needs.

Deputy Town Manager Lee Barbee, who oversees the Public Works Department, emphasized the significance of this leadership transition. “This role is important to the ongoing improvement of Clayton’s infrastructure. With Rusty in this position, we are confident that we will continue to provide reliable, high-quality services that support the needs of our residents and businesses while also positioning the department to address upcoming challenges and opportunities.”
