SBI Agents Arrest Teacher On Child Exploitation Charges

CARRBORO, NC – On Friday, February 13, agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) Computer Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Carrboro Police Department, executed a search warrant at 200 NC Highway 54 in Carrboro.
The investigation began following a CyberTip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). As a result of the investigation, Christopher James Rex, 40, of Carrboro, was arrested and charged with 10 counts of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
Investigators determined that Rex was employed as a teacher at ONE Academy, a school located in Siler City. Following his arrest, Rex was transported to the Orange County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details will be released at this time.
