SBI Arrests Duplin County Man Accused Of Threatening Judge, Sheriff On Social Media

DUPLIN COUNTY — A Teachey man has been arrested and charged with making threats against a Duplin County judge and the county sheriff, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Matthew Lane Tart, 37, was taken into custody by agents with the SBI’s Coastal District and charged with three felony counts of threats against executive, legislative or court officers.

The SBI said Tart allegedly made several threatening statements on social media directed at a Duplin County Superior Court judge, Sheriff Stratton Stokes and members of the sheriff’s office staff.

Tart was arrested and placed in the Duplin County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the SBI.
