SBI Arrests Former Johnston Correctional Officer

SMITHFIELD – A Correctional Officer who had been on the job less than one year has been arrested by the NC State Bureau of Investigation. On January 6, 2023, the SBI was requested by Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield to investigate allegations of potential sexual contact between a female correctional officer and an inmate.

After the investigation, and consulting with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office, Jordan Latrice Hodge, age 29, of Smithfield was arrested January 16, 2023 by an SBI agent, where she turned herself in at the Johnston County Magistrate’s Office. Hodge was charged with one count of sexual activity by a substitute custodian. Her arrest warrant alleges she engaged in vaginal intercourse with an inmate. After going before a magistrate, Hodge was issued a $50,000 secured bond.

According to the NC Department of Adult Correction, Hodge was hired May 9, 2022 as a Correctional Officer at Johnston Correctional.

“The Department of Adult Correction has zero tolerance for any staff involved in any illegal activity and is cooperating fully in this investigation. The Department has many hard-working correctional professionals and it takes staff arrests very seriously. These allegations are under internal investigation as well,” said John Bull, Communications Officer for the NC Department of Adult Correction.

Hodge resigned from her position January 13, 2023, three days prior to her arrest.
