SMITHFIELD – The Johnston County Public Health Department has received reports about a scam involving calls about financial incentive offers.
The scammers pretend to be with the Public Health Department and make an offer of a $100 gift card, claiming and all you have to do is pay the shipping and handling.
If you receive one of these calls, do not share any personal or financial information. You should never share personal data with someone unless you know the person to whom you are speaking. Additionally, please keep in mind that the Johnston County Public Health Department will not call you to offer financial incentives.
Scammers who have called local residents are saying they are from the ‘Public Health Department’ but not the ‘Johnston County Public Health Department’ but are implying they are with the local agency.
If you are contacted by such a scammer, hang up immediately and report it to the NCDOJ’s Consumer Protection Division by calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM or by filing a complaint online.
