School Bus Rear-Ended Near Four Oaks
FOUR OAKS, N.C. – No injuries were reported after a Johnston County Public Schools bus was rear-ended Thursday morning while stopping to pick up a student.
The crash happened on Keen Road near NC 96 South.
Bus 86, carrying students to Four Oaks Elementary School, was stopping at a residence to pick up a student when it was struck from behind by a Jeep.
Initial reports indicate 27 students were on board the bus. None were injured.
A mother and two children were in the Jeep. They also escaped injury.
The collision prompted a response from Johnston County EMS, Johnston County Emergency Services and the Four Oaks Fire Department.
Keen Road was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene. The school bus was able to be driven away, while the Jeep had to be towed.
The students were transported on another bus to Four Oaks Elementary School.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Yes they need to. People can’t drive anymore without a phone in their hand. Car companies need to invent something that will cut your car off going down the road if it senses a phone in operation

This problem has caused a push to have new vehicles watch the driver and sense if they are not paying attention. This is difficult and problematic and does nothing for the millions of cars already on the road.
It’s already illegal to type or read texts while driving in this state (G.S. 20-137.4A), but the law is largely unenforced.
I’m glad to see awareness of this severe problem is growing. I believe that cell phones are now causing more deaths than DUI. Nearly every single car accident that happens during the day in good weather involves a smartphone, and a large portion of collisions as well. Statistics are inaccurate because it’s hard to prove and always denied, and it’s not illegal to have your phone in your hand. That law would help but it’s unpopular.

Cars are driving too fast on this road. The speed limit needs to be lowered.
The speed limit isn’t an issue if people are paying attention. If the Jeep had been going fast, there would have been injuries. The damage is severe because the bus bumper is up so high that the Jeep bumper went under it.
Regardless of the cause of the crash- That’s a bad spot just after a hill. The stop might benefit being moved a bit more onto the hill rather than behind it on a 55 mph road. Glad to see everyone is safe.
