School Bus Rear-Ended Near Four Oaks

FOUR OAKS, N.C. – No injuries were reported after a Johnston County Public Schools bus was rear-ended Thursday morning while stopping to pick up a student.

The crash happened on Keen Road near NC 96 South.

Bus 86, carrying students to Four Oaks Elementary School, was stopping at a residence to pick up a student when it was struck from behind by a Jeep.

Initial reports indicate 27 students were on board the bus. None were injured.

A mother and two children were in the Jeep. They also escaped injury.

The collision prompted a response from Johnston County EMS, Johnston County Emergency Services and the Four Oaks Fire Department.

Keen Road was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene. The school bus was able to be driven away, while the Jeep had to be towed.

The students were transported on another bus to Four Oaks Elementary School.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

  1. Regardless of the cause of the crash- That’s a bad spot just after a hill. The stop might benefit being moved a bit more onto the hill rather than behind it on a 55 mph road. Glad to see everyone is safe.

  2. Really hard to see those great big yellow buses with the flashing red lights….on a straight road!!!
