Emergency crews responded to an area near the Middlesex Church of God on Highway 231 in Nash County Tuesday evening after receiving a report of a plane crash.
The call came from an air traffic controller in Washington DC. They had received a call from a pilot saying they had picked up a distress signal from another plane and the coordinates came back to an area near Highway 231.
Law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Two citizens even confirmed hearing a plane in the area but no one saw a plane go down.
An extensive ground and air search was conducted but nothing was found.
