Search Underway For Vehicle That Nearly Struck Deputy

A Johnston County sheriff’s deputy narrowly avoided being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night near Four Oaks.

The officer had responded to the 300 block of Heath Road off NC 96 South around 8:30pm for a report of a fight in the roadway.  The suspects had reportedly left by the time the officer had arrived.

About 15 minutes later, deputies were summoned back to the same location for a report of three suspicious vehicles parked in the roadway.

The first deputy arrived on the scene and approached one of the vehicles.  A second vehicle began to speed away, forcing the officer to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.  The deputy returned to his patrol car and pursued the vehicle but the driver managed to get away from the officer.

When the officer returned to the scene the other two vehicles had also fled.

The deputy was not injured.  The incident remains under investigation.
