Search Warrant Leads To Drug Trafficking Charges, Child Taken Into DSS Custody
JOHNSTON COUNTY — Authorities say a search warrant executed Wednesday at a Willow Spring home uncovered suspected methamphetamine hidden in a baby crib, leading to multiple felony charges and the removal of a child from the residence.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Raleigh Police were preparing to serve a search warrant at a residence on Carrie Drive in Johnston County when Albert Lee Aleman, 35, left the home in a Dodge Ram pickup truck that had previously been reported stolen in Raleigh.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and arrested Aleman, who investigators said had approximately one gram of suspected methamphetamine in his possession.
Officers then searched the residence, where they found Juanita Nava-Velasco, 33, and her 9-month-old child. Investigators reported locating 285 grams of suspected methamphetamine inside a baby crib. Authorities said the child was not inside the crib at the time.
Additional items seized during the search included a firearm, drug paraphernalia, smoking devices, digital scales and $3,229 in cash. A ballistic vest stolen from a car in Durham was also recovered.
Officials said both Aleman and Nava-Velasco are convicted felons and are prohibited from possessing firearms.
The Johnston County Department of Social Services responded to the scene and assumed custody of the child.
Both suspects were charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor child abuse.
Authorities said Aleman also had outstanding failure-to-appear warrants in Wake County on drug-related charges, including trafficking and possession of narcotics near a school.
Aleman was jailed without bond. Nava-Velasco was held under a $100,000 secured bond.

Ok, you have them , make the punishment severe and instant!! So severe they pass out from extreme pain, starvation and thirst and on top of that, they are responsible for any medical bills and the DSS involvement on top of child support! We need to stop letting people off with a good time when breaking laws and endangering children!!!

For you experts at reading comprehension, who clearly didn’t understand what was said in the article, it said the baby was not in the crib at the time the drugs were found in the crib…. The baby was at the residence because it said DSS responded to the home to take custody of the child.

I want to reply. I wish things were different. It’s clear some contributors are victims of drug related crimes and some clearly are not. So I’ll say this. It’s true it’s legal for one to drink or drug or smoke themselves to death. However the second it affects minors, public funding , endangers drivers on the roadways or crimes to pay for or injure innocent ppl. Well that’s different. Clearly these two arrested are running a business peddling illegal drugs and thieves to boot. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander does not apply here.
