Second Johnston Community College Instructor Named Educator Of The Year

Practical Nursing Instructor Natalie Oliver Receives Educator of the Year Award

SMITHFIELD – For the second time this month, a Johnston Community College nursing instructor was named Educator of the Year by a group of peers.

Natalie Oliver was awarded Educator of the Year by the North Carolina Council of Practical Nurse Educators (NCCPNE) at its biannual meeting last week.

NCCPNE represents the community colleges of North Carolina that have practical nurse programs. Oliver was hired in October of 2021 to help start JCC’s new Practical Nursing program.

“Starting a brand-new program is challenging. Mrs. Oliver was able to come in and immediately begin putting together a program which is a tremendous feat,” says Nursing Education Programs Department Chair Dr. Jennifer Sugg.

“We are so proud of her and the work she has accomplished in such a short period of time,” Sugg adds.

The first cohort of the new Practical Nursing program at Johnston Community College (JCC) recently graduated and achieved a one hundred percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN). The NCLEX-PN is a required test for practical and vocational nurses in the United States and Canada.
