Selma Council Approves $7,500-A-Month Government Relations Contract

SELMA — The Selma Town Council unanimously approved a one-year, $90,000 contract with Checkmate Government Relations, LLC.

The firm will be paid $7,500 per month to provide state and federal government relations services.

Town Manager Phillip McDaniel said Checkmate works with numerous government agencies, including federal agencies that oversee grant funding.

The contract lists an effective date of Sept. 14, 2026, although the agreement was not approved by the Town Council until its Oct. 8 meeting.

Councilmember Amy West Whitley made the motion to approve the contract. Councilmember Ruth Ray seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
