Selma Man Dies In Buffalo Road Wreck

SMITHFIELD – The State Highway Patrol has released the identity of a driver found dead in a single vehicle accident Saturday night. The accident was reported at 8:20pm on Buffalo Road near Eason Drive.

Stacey Glen Jones, 47, of Napoleon Road, Selma was on the way to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield due to a medical issue when the Ford F-150 truck he was operating ran off the roadway in a curve. The truck collided with a utility pole then drove approximately 200 feet before striking a tree.

Stacey Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Violet Jones, who was riding in the passenger seat, was transported to WakeMed with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts. There was no evidence of drug or alcohol use.

The accident knocked down power line wires across Buffalo Road. The roadway was closed for several hours until the damaged utility pole and power lines were repaired.
