Selma Proclaims Sept. 17-23 Constitution Week

SELMA, N.C. – The Town of Selma has proclaimed Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week, recognizing the 239th anniversary of the drafting of the United States Constitution.

Representatives of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Smith-Bryan Chapter, which serves Johnston County, attended the Sept. 3 meeting of the Selma Town Council and were present as Mayor Byron McAllister presented the proclamation following the town’s official recognition.

The U.S. Constitution was drafted by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Sept. 17, 2026 marks the 239th anniversary of that event.

In issuing the proclamation, McAllister encouraged residents to reflect on the principles established by the framers of the Constitution and the freedoms guaranteed by the document.

The proclamation calls on citizens to “reaffirm the ideals of the Framers” and to remain vigilant in protecting constitutional freedoms.

Members of the Smith-Bryan Chapter were recognized by McAllister and the Town Council as part of the observance.
