BENSON – On Friday, September 8th, Senator Thom Tillis visited Benson to talk about rural economic growth and meet small business owners.
Senator Tillis was given a tour of area economic development sites by local businessman Dale Parker and Benson Mayor Jerry Medlin. Mr. Parker and Mayor Medlin shared their plans for attracting high-paying jobs to the town of 4,000 residents located at the junction of Interstates 40 and 95.
At a luncheon hosted by the Benson Area Chamber of Commerce, Senator Tillis spoke to more than 30 local business leaders on the work he was doing in Washington, D.C. to promote economic prosperity in Johnston County and all across North Carolina.
Tillis talked in depth about his work to write and pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that allocated $550 billion for roads, bridges, broadband, and clean water across the U.S.
Senator Tillis mention North Carolina has already been awarded more than $1.5 billion in broadband funding and highlighted local projects in Johnston County being funded by the legislation, including $45 million for US 70 and nearly $300,000 for the Johnston County Regional Airport in Smithfield.
