SELMA – A serious crash involving a tractor trailer and recreational vehicle (RV) has shut down a section of Interstate 95 in Johnston County.  The wreck happened shortly before 1:00PM today (Wednesday) in the northbound lanes of I-95 at the US 70 Selma Flyover Bridge near the 97 mile marker.

Reports indicate the driver of an RV ran into the rear of the tractor trailer.  The impact severely pinned the driver of the RV inside his vehicle.  Crews from the Selma, Smithfield, Micro and Pine Level Fire Departments have responded to the scene to extricate the RV’s driver.  Once extricated the driver will be airlifted from the scene by helicopter.

A passenger in the RV has been taken by Johnston County EMS to Wake Medical Center.

Both north and southbound lanes of I-95 have been closed for a Life Flight helicopter to land at the scene. Southbound lanes will be reopened once the helicopter leaves the scene with the patient. There is no word when northbound lanes will be reopened.
