A Johnston County deputy sheriff was involved in a traffic accident while responding to a call for assistance Tuesday night. The accident happened on Country Store Road near Pine Level.
A state trooper had radioed for urgent help and the deputy was responding to the call. The deputy had his lights and siren on and was passing two vehicles that had yielded, however a third vehicle made an unexpected left turn into his path. The patrol car struck the turning SUV, forcing the marked Dodge Charger off the roadway into the front yard of a home where it struck a parked pickup truck attached to a utility trailer.
The officer was not injured however the driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
