Goldsboro — In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wayne UNC Health Care
and the County of Wayne are encouraging the local community to shine a light for healthcare workers and first responders by hanging lights in the shape of a heart in their windows.
“Our healthcare workers and first responders are critical in the fight against COVID-19 and we appreciate the support of our community at this unprecedented time,” said Wayne UNC
President & CEO Janie Jaberg. “This is a great way to connect and spread hope. We can’t spend time together or go around hugging each other, but we can all join together to show these frontline workers how much we appreciate everything they are doing for our community.”
The Wayne UNC team encourages the community to take a picture of their lights, share them on social media by using #wayneshines and then look around to see others doing it too.
“Know that we are all connected, even if we are apart, and together we can make a difference by staying home and supporting those on the frontlines” said Joel Gillie, Wayne County Public Information Officer.
The City of Goldsboro is also illuminating the Holly Street Water Tower nightly in support of
healthcare and first responders.
Goldsboro City Manager Tim Salmon expressed thanks on behalf of the community for the efforts everyone is taking to slow the spread of COVID-19 and mitigate its impact to the health, welfare and wellbeing of residents and visitors.
Frontline workers continue to receive an outpouring of support from individuals and
organizations, as they work to provide compassionate care for patients and families. Wayne
Shines is another simple way people can come together in support of those sacrificing for the health of our community during this time.
