One person was killed and a second person was critically wounded in a shooting Tuesday night southeast of Pikeville.
Wayne County deputies said they responded to an 11:48pm 911 call from a male who said he had been shot and a female with him had also been shot. Deputies and EMS located the two individuals at a car in the roadway in the 1100 block of Mt. Carmel Church Road.
Both victims were rushed to Wayne UNC Healthcare. The female victim, 20 year-old Lacoria Zhanae Cox of Pikeville, died at the hospital. The male victim, 23 year-old Donnie Rae’Kwan Henry, of an unknown address, was critically wounded. Henry was transferred to Vidant Hospital in Greenville for treatment.
Detectives have not released information on a possible suspect or motive. Authorities said their investigation is still ongoing.
