Shoplifting Suspect Flips U-Haul Truck During Chase

HARNETT COUNTY – A shoplifting suspect led law enforcement officers on a chase Wednesday afternoon. It began when Dunn Police responded to Walmart for a reported theft.
A short time later, Erwin Police spotted the suspect in a U-Haul moving truck and attempted to make a traffic stop. The U-Haul sped away, at times reaching speeds in excess of 75 mph.

The pursuit went through the Coats-Erwin Middle School Zone as school was being dismissed for the day.
Harnett County deputies were able to perform a PIT maneuver on Old Stage Road causing the U-Haul to overturn on its side. The suspect reportedly fled on foot but was apprehended following a brief foot chase.

A second person inside the U-Haul was evaluated at the scene by EMS. Both individuals were arrested.
Police recovered a stolen leaf blower and pressure washer from the truck.
