WAYNE COUNTY – A 15 year-old is facing charges in juvenile court following two attempted home invasions and a shooting. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the two incidents happened at the same address, just hours apart.
Around 9:40pm Friday, a prowler call was received on Nor-Am Road in Pikeville. Six suspects attempted to make entry into the residence and fled on foot after an unsuccessful attempt. Deputies responded but were unable to locate anyone.
A few hours later, around 2:44am Saturday, two suspects wearing masks returned to the same home. One was armed with a handgun. A second attempt was made at entering the victim’s residence.
Deputies were already patrolling the area and arrived quickly, however the suspects had just fled. Authorities said gunfire was exchanged between one of the suspects and a resident as they were fleeing. As a result of the exchange of gunfire, the residence was struck.
The area was patrolled by deputies and troopers, and one of the suspects was located in the vicinity. After a brief foot chase, the juvenile suspect was taken into custody.
The 15 year-old was charged with two counts of attempted first degree burglary and one count of discharging a firearm into occupied property.
Additional suspects have not been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
