Shots Fired Into Two Smithfield Homes

SMITHFIELD – Five people escaped injury after multiple shots were fired into two adjacent homes. The shooting was reported at 10:20pm Wednesday, February 16th in the 800 block of South Fifth Street near Mill Street, and across the street from Smithfield First Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Police said a total of five people were in the two homes. Seven shots were fired into one residence. One round was fired into the second home. Detectives found 10 bullet casings nearby.

Smithfield Police said the victims, ranging in ages from 19 to 48, were inside the homes at the time they were struck by the gunfire. There is no known motive.
