BENSON – A motorist traveling below the posted speed limit on Interstate 40 in Johnston County was arrested after he led state troopers on a chase that reached speeds of 120 miles per hour. While traveling at a high rate of speed he reportedly crashed in the back of an innocent motorist also traveling on I-40.
Around 10:00pm Sunday, a trooper clocked a Mitsubishi passenger car traveling at only 30 miles per hour in the westbound lane of I-40. The trooper attempted to stop the driver but he quickly sped away.
Near the McGee’s Crossroads exit, the fleeing driver reportedly crashed into the back of a car, heavily damaging both vehicles. Two passengers in the Mitsubishi and two occupants in the other vehicle were injured. The driver of the Mitsubishi was the only one not injured.
Luis Eduardo Velasquez, age 26, of Fayetteville, NC was charged with multiple offenses including felony fleeing to elude arrest, speeding 120 mph in a 70 mph zone, reckless driving, driving while impaired, resisting and delaying, no operator’s license, and injury to property. The injury to property charge stemmed from Velasquez reportedly damaging a SHP cruiser while being transported to the Johnston County Jail, where the suspect registered 0.14 on the Breathalyzer.
no operator’s license???
open borders have consequences
This is why DWIs should be felony offenses themselves. You endanger everyone on the road and its just a misdemeanor, while someone can endanger a single person and be found guilty of a felony. Doesn’t make much sense.
