The Garner Police Department is now accepting applications for the fall Citizens’ Police Academy. The classes start Sept. 12 and will run for 10 weeks. It will be a midday class on Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
The Citizens’ Police Academy is an opportunity to learn how the Garner Police Department works, meet officers who work in your community and learn more about what it means to be a police officer in Garner today.
The goal of the academy is to build relationships between officers and the community through better understanding of officers’ jobs and functions. It also provides a forum for feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Each week, one or more topics will be discussed by members of the department. Participants will have opportunities for hands-on practical exercises where appropriate.
Residents interested in the academy can go to the Police Services page to fill out an application. For additional information, please email Sgt. Sophia Sandlin at ssandlin@garnernc.gov.
