Sinkhole Forces Closure Of US 301 In Benson

BENSON – A sinkhole discovered early Sunday morning has forced the closure of a section of US Highway 301 near Hill Street.
Benson Police were the first to respond after spotting the sinkhole during a routine patrol. Officers quickly set up detours to redirect traffic away from the affected area while awaiting the arrival of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

NCDOT crews are now assessing the damage and working on repairs. Officials estimate that the highway could remain closed through Wednesday, August 13, depending on the extent of the damage and weather conditions.
A detour remains in place to help manage traffic flow. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area and follow posted signs.

They got a sink hole on the street just like the sink hole in the town’s bank account.
They must have the school board looking after that bank account too.
They really need to put in a traffic circle around it with a 4 way stop sign inside the circle and have a policeman run radar in the circle in an unmarked Navy colored Nissan Rouge. That would resolve it.
