Smithfield Building Burns

A former physicians office building in Smithfield was heavily damaged by flames late Wednesday night. Around 11:00pm. Smithfield and Selma fire crews responded to a working fire inside a commercial building at 714 Wilkins Street near Johnston Medical Center.

Fireman battled heavy smoke and flames before bringing the blaze under control. The 1,600 square foot building, which was in the process of being remodeled, sustained an estimated $50,000 in damage.

Smithfield Fire Chief John Blanton said the fire was ruled accidental.  No injuries were reported, however, paramedics closely monitored firemen due to the extreme heat and outside temperature.  Photos by JoCoFire.com
