Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield hosted a Rise Against Hunger, formally Stop Hunger Now, food packaging event in their fellowship hall on April 29th.
Over 60 volunteers packaged 10,000 meals in less than two hours.
Rise Against Hunger, is a non-profit international hunger relief organization that distributes food to developing nations with the intent to help eliminate hunger.
Centenary’s meals will go directly to Africa or the Dominican Republic.
Organizers said it was a wonderful opportunity that the church was able to participate in and it brought all ages together. Participants ranged in age from 5 into their 90’s. At the end of the event, volunteers felt a sense of accomplishment because they saw what their actions and teamwork did for the world.
