SMITHFIELD – The city limits of Smithfield just got larger. The Town Council approved 7-to-0 a request by Samet Properties of Greensboro to annex the Amazon development site on W. Market Street which encompasses 169.67 acres.

Same also requested a second adjacent parcel of 23.35 acres be annexed as well. The smaller parcel will likely be developed into warehouse facilities and a future road into the business park to access industrial sites.

Both tracts of land have road frontage on W. Market Street.

In June, Samet Properties requested voluntary annexation of both parcels totaling 193.02 acres. A public hearing was held on the request at the September meeting of the Smithfield Town Council. No one spoke in opposition.
