Smithfield Man Arrested For Sex Offenses
SMITHFIELD – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect on numerous sex offense charges.
Steven Connor Nelson, age 36, of Brodie Rose Landing Way, Smithfield was arrested May 27 and charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of first degree statutory sex offense with a child.
The allegations against Nelson were first reported to law enforcement officers on May 16, 2025.
The victim in the case is a juvenile. Because the case involves a minor, no additional details were released.
Nelson was held under a $900,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.

When he gets to prison for his crime, he better tell the warden and the correctional officers to put him in his own corner. He’s gonna regret on doing his crime cause he was think about. Those prisoners are going to more than what he did. You think the victim was hurt enough for he did, it’s gonna be just as worse on him “if he survives,” that’s right that correctly, “if he survives!!!” The men in prison definitely do not like child rapist, they condone child rapist. I know how this victim feels, I fell victim to (I’m a guy) a female child rapist, I was between the ages of 7 or 9. She was about 16 – 17 years old, she knew what she was doing and I didn’t. People like them should made worse than they did to their victims. After all the years (I’m 45 now), I’m still affected and going through counseling.
