A Smithfield man is recovering from injuries after he was beaten and robbed at gunpoint. Smithfield Police said the incident occurred Thursday night around 11:00pm in the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The 49 year-old victim told police he was walking when he was attacked by three men. One of the suspects assaulted the victim with brass knuckles. Another suspect brandished a handgun.
Police Captain R.K. Powell said the victim was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money. The injured man was taken to the hospital where he was treated overnight and released Friday morning.
Captain Powell said investigators have 3 suspects in the case and charges are pending.
