Ten years after he won the 2006 Mr. North Carolina competition, Mike Wolbert once again brought home first place trophies in a statewide competition held last weekend.
Wolbert, 48, won the North Carolina State Bodybuilding Championships in the Over 40 Heavyweight category. He also won the Overall Over 40 Masters Division.
A total of 222 people from across the state competed in the two day event April 8-9 in Raleigh.
Wolbert, a school resource officer with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, said he spent 16 weeks preparing for the intense competition including two hours of cardio each day, 7 to 8 small meals daily all while not consuming any sugar, saturated fat or restaurant foods.
“First and foremost I give glory to God for allowing me to participate in the sport,” Wolbert said. He does his training at Body Fit in Smithfield.
Wolbert and his wife, Angela, reside in Smithfield. While not bodybuilding, he enjoys hunting and fishing.
He plans to participate in the Masters Mr. Universe competition in New York City in 2019, when he reaches age 50.
