SMITHFIELD – Smithfield’s newest patrol officer should feel right at home. Officer Jacob Gibbons received his Oath of Office from Mayor Andy Moore during the August meeting of the Smithfield Town Council.

Officer Gibbons was born and raised in Smithfield. He graduated in 2019 from Smithfield Selma High. In May 2023, he completed Basic Law Enforcement Training at Johnston Community College.

Officer Gibbons said he wanted to join the Smithfield Police Department to give back to his community. He also wants to make every effort possible to have a positive impact on the citizens and Town of Smithfield.

Gibbons will be assigned to the patrol division.

The department is currently looking to fill 12 other sworn-officer vacancies.
