Smithfield Police have increased patrols in South and East Smithfield following 5 break-ins in the last 7 days.
Two of the break-ins occurred at homes in the same city block less just 3 days apart.
Last Friday, a 46 year-old woman said someone broke into her home in the 1000 block of South 2nd Street between 1:00pm and 11:30pm while she was away. Police said entry was made through a window.
On Monday, a 47 year-old woman living in the same block reported someone gained entry into her home between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Police said a window was the point of entry. No items were taken in either break-in.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said there are no suspects in the South 2nd Street break-ins, however detectives are following up on leads in an unrelated break-in on Mill Street this week. Two additional break-ins were also under investigation.
Captain Sheppard says anyone seeing any suspicious activity in your neighborhood should contact Smithfield Police immediately at 919-934-2121.
