Smithfield Police Department Launches New Mobile App

SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Police Department is enhancing its ability to engage with the community and keep residents safe through the launch of a new mobile app that makes it easy to connect with police, access information, receive public safety alerts, and submit anonymous tips directly from a smartphone.

The Smithfield PD app puts a powerful new crime-fighting and community engagement tooL into the hands of residents of all ages. The app is available for free download by via the Google Play Store or iTunes App Store by searching Smithfield PD.

“Our mission is to protect and serve the citizens of Smithfield through professionalism, integrity, and collaboration,” said Police Chief Pete Hedrick. “The Smithfield PD app gives our community a safe, anonymous way to share information and partner with us to address safety concerns, prevent crime, and strengthen the trust that makes Smithfield a great place to live and work.”

In addition to submitting anonymous tips, the new app allows residents to sign up for public safety alerts to stay informed about important updates, road closures, emergency notifications, and community advisories.

The app’s technology enables the public to share anonymous tips with officers and allows police to respond back, creating an anonymous two-way conversation. The system removes all identifying information before police see the tips, ensuring complete anonymity for the sender.

Those without a smartphone can still share information by texting keyword SPDNCTIP and their message to 847411. Anonymous web tips can also be submitted via the department’s website at smithfield-nc.com/page/police_app .
