Smithfield Police Investigating Two-Vehicle Crash
SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of South Fifth Street and Holt Street.
The collision, reported around 2 p.m., involved a Toyota passenger car and a Chevrolet pickup truck towing a trailer.
A witness said one person in the Toyota was unconscious following the crash. That person was transported by Johnston County EMS to WakeMed.
Two occupants of the Chevrolet were also injured. One was transported to WakeMed, while the other was evaluated at the scene and declined transportation to the hospital.
The pickup struck a utility pole following the collision. Smithfield Public Utilities electric crews responded to inspect the pole for damage.
Smithfield Police are investigating the crash.

They will probably say the insurance companies will figure it out. Otherwise no charges. Keeps the police from spending their time in a court room.
I know and that sucks. They don’t measure points of impact to the stopping point. Don’t measure skid marks, nor get witness statements. In a residential neighborhood, with all the Ring doorbells their job would be done for them.
Those stop signs are too low. The federal MUTCD’s current Section 2A.15 is quite explicit:
In residential areas where parking, bicyclist, or pedestrian movements are likely, the minimum height is 7 feet, measured from the top of the curb to the bottom of the sign.
And this is not merely a federal recommendation floating out there. NCDOT’s own signing material says:
“Signs erected in business, commercial, and residential areas shall be mounted at a height of at least seven feet.”
if you are not paying attention to the road it doesn’t matter how high the sign is.
