Smithfield Search Warrant Results In Drug, Firearm Charges

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – A 38-year-old Smithfield man is facing multiple drug and firearm charges following a search warrant at his East Dundee Street home.

Demorris Tyree Meeks was arrested Sept. 24 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division following an investigation into the alleged sale and distribution of narcotics.

Investigators said they recovered approximately 20 grams of marijuana, cocaine residue, drug paraphernalia, narcotics packaging materials and a Glock handgun during the search.

Authorities said Meeks is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

He was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The investigation remains ongoing.
