Smithfield Ticket Produces $200,000 Powerball Winner
SMITHFIELD, N.C. – A Four Oaks man is celebrating a big lottery win after turning a $3 Powerball ticket into a $200,000 prize.
Ronald Baggett purchased the lucky Quick Pick ticket from the Speedway convenience store on North Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield for Saturday’s Powerball drawing.
Baggett matched four white balls and the red Powerball to win a $50,000 prize. Because he added the Power Play option to his ticket, the prize was multiplied by four when the 4X Power Play number was drawn, boosting his winnings to $200,000.
Baggett claimed his prize Monday at North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After the required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $144,021..

Congratulations to this man who no doubt was as happy as any of us would be! I would wager the state is probably as happy as he is if not happier to collect all those taxes!! With all the hoopla about what the lottery was going to do for our schools when it was being voted on in 2005 everyone should research just how much it really contributes to our school system. It brings in about 1 billion a year but have you ever wondered just how much of that money actually goes into our schools?? 🤔
