Smithfield Town Council Awards Bids For Three Projects
SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Town Council approved contracts for three Parks and Recreation projects during its Jan. 20 meeting, covering sports court resurfacing, greenway fencing, and HVAC replacement.
Sports Court Resurfacing
Outer Banks Tennis Contractors, LLC was awarded a $54,106 contract to resurface two tennis courts and two basketball courts at Smithfield Community Park, as well as one tennis court at Smith-Collins Park. The project comes within the $70,000 budget allocation for court improvements in the current budget.
The Parks and Recreation Department received four proposals for the work, with Outer Banks Tennis Contractors submitting the lowest bid. The company has completed similar projects for the town in the past, and staff said their work met all specifications.
Buffalo Creek Greenway Fence Repairs
TEBCO Fence received approval for an $8,000 contract to repair and replace 500 linear feet of fencing along the Buffalo Creek Greenway, spanning from the bridge at the Boy Scout Hut to the bridge at US 70 Business.
The section of fencing had been deemed unsafe for greenway users due to its location along the bank. Five bids were received, with TEBCO submitting the lowest and having a track record of quality work for the town.
Sarah Yard Community Center HVAC Replacement
The council also approved a $7,460.22 contract with Heat Transfer Solutions 2, LLC to replace one air conditioning and heater unit at the Sarah Yard Community Center.
The center had been operating with a single functioning unit during the summer, while the second unit was found to be in good working order. Only two quotes were received after multiple requests, with Heat Transfer Solutions submitting the lower bid and having a history of successful repairs for the town.
All three contracts were unanimously approved by the council.
