A 40 acre tract of land in the Wilders Township has been rezoned to allow for a solar farm. 40 acres out of a 150 acre parcel of land on Williamson Lane and owned by Samuel and Betty Williams was rezoned from Agricultural Residential to Special Use during the February meeting of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners.
The applicant, Truman Farm LLC and Strata Solar LLC said a solar farm will create clean energy and will have a low impact use while not harming the environment or creating any light pollution. Once constructed, the solar operation will be fully automated with only one to two vehicle trips to the site each month.
A total of 18 adjacent property owners were notified. No one spoke in opposition. In a motion by Vice Chairman Chad Stewart, the board voted 7-to-0 to approve the request.
