Sources inside the hospital, but not authorized to speak with the media, tell the Record nurses and other employees at the hospital began receiving the news on Monday that the Labor & Delivery department, as well as the nursery, at Betsy Johnson will cease operations effective Oct. 15.

“I cannot confirm or deny any information at this point, as we are still speaking with employees,” said Director of Administration Kelly Honeycutt. “There will be a press release available on Thursday morning.”

Newsroom telephones were ringing with news tips regarding this closure.

Another inside source shared employees are being told there is a lack of obstetricians and nursing staff to adequately staff the birthing area that is creating a safety issue for mothers and babies.

  1. Shortage of workers everywhere. Took me a year to get in to see a nero doctor because of the shortage. Kind of hard to run a hospital with lack of staff. Get back to work everyone..
