South Smithfield Elementary Principal Named

Susan Jones was named the principal of South Smithfield Elementary at a Special Session Johnston County Board of Education meeting on Friday, June 25.

Jones has served Johnston County Public Schools as an educator for nearly 22 years. Most recently she was the principal of Clayton Middle School. Jones will begin her new role at South Smithfield Elementary on July 1.

“I am looking forward to this new opportunity and to building positive relationships with the children, families, and staff in the South Smithfield community,” said Jones. “I am excited about all of the wonderful things we will accomplish together this upcoming school year.”

Jones has spent much of her career working in elementary education. She began her career as a first grade teacher at McGee’s Elementary. She then transitioned into the role of a first and second grade teacher and literacy coach at Dixon Road Elementary.

After moving into administration, Jones has served as an Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director for JCPS. She was most recently named Principal of Clayton Middle in 2019.

“We look forward to Ms. Jones leading South Smithfield Elementary,” said Johnston County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracy. “South Smithfield is a true community school and I know she will be a great addition to the team that is in place.”
