Sports Cars Seized After Trooper Clocks Drivers At 130MPH

SMITHFIELD – Two sports cars were seized this morning (Tuesday) by the State Highway Patrol under the NC Run and Done Law.   Around 11:00am, a state trooper was on routine patrol on Cleveland Road near Smithfield and met a Chevy Corvette and Chevy Camaro approaching him at a high rate of speed. The trooper clocked the two vehicles speeding at 130 miles per hour.

The trooper turned around and attempted to stop the two cars. Moments later, the Corvette crashed into a guardrail and ditch at the intersection of Cleveland Road and Highway 210.  The Camaro was located a short time later on a nearby secondary road and stopped without further incident.

Both drivers are facing multiple traffic charges. There were no injuries.

The owner of the Corvette had reportedly owned the vehicle for less than a week.
