State Senate Candidate Baldwin Withdraws

Democrats will meet to put up another candidate

State Senate candidate Howard Baldwin has withdrawn from the race.

He was running in the seat currently held by Senator Ronald Rabin. Senator Rabin is not seeking re-election. Jim Burgin is the Republican running in that race.

The Harnett County Democrats posted the following on their website:  “Our Democratic candidate for Senate District 12, Howard Baldwin, has withdrawn from the race. He is relocating to the Washington, D.C., area. We want to thank Howard for stepping up to serve and wish him the best of luck.”

The Democrats can choose a candidate to replace him and it appears that’s their intentions.

“At this time, I am serving notice of my withdrawal as a candidate and request that the appropriate district committee of the Democrat Party meet to nominate my successor whose name will appear on the General Election ballot,” Mr. Baldwin said in his notice of withdrawal he filed with the state.

The name of the new candidate must be submitted to the Harnett County Board of Elections no later than Wednesday, August 8thto appear on the November ballot.

Mr. Baldwin resides in the Spout Springs community. He is retired from the Air Force which he joined following his high school graduation in 1985. He served in military intelligence and conducted operations against the former Soviet Union.
