State Trooper Pulls Accident Victims From Burning Car

SAMPSON COUNTY – A state trooper is being credited with rescuing victims from a burning car involved in a violent crash.

Shortly after 6:00pm this evening (Friday), a Sampson County state trooper drove up on a single vehicle accident that had just occurred on Rabbit Street, not far from the Herring Volunteer Fire Station.

The car reportedly traveled off the roadway in a curve, through a field, then struck a tree head-on. The engine compartment suddenly burst into flames.

The trooper located three people inside the mangled car. Two of the three victims suffered injuries that preventing them from being able to exiting the vehicle on their own. The trooper was able to pull two people from the vehicle. The third victim was able to exit the car without assistance.

The Herring Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Sampson County EMS treated the victims until all three could be airlifted to area trauma centers.

The Highway Patrol believes speed was a contributing factor.

  1. The Trooper, whose name is unknown did an outstanding job. This Trooper put his own life in danger to save the lives of the victims in the car. My hat is off to the unknown Trooper. It’s LEO’s like you that give Law Enforcement a GREAT name. God Bless you and please be safe out there.

  2. People ridicule law enforcement all the time it seems. But when trouble happens they run to it, not away! People— show law enforcement the respect they deserve!!
