The driver of a black car, which was at the rear of the chain reaction accident, was approaching the stoplight on US 70 at Strickland Road, traveling westbound at slow speed, he said, when he struck the unsuspecting car in the middle. That car was pushed forwarded into the back of a North Carolina State Highway Patrol cruiser, which was stopped for a red light.
