Winners received cash prizes for their prose, poetry
Students at Johnston Community College were recognized May 2 for their outstanding poetry and prose writing in the 2019 Cynthia DeFord Adams Literary Competition.
In the prose category, Xenia Weakly of Clayton won first place, Abbagail Ann Fry of Selma won second place, and Trey Dixon of Angier won third place. Nicholas Ellis of Selma received honorable mention. In the poetry category, Trey Dixon of Angier won first place, Lianna Grace Fox of Clayton won second and third place. Xenia Weakly of Clayton received honorable mention.
A reception was held in the Frank Creech Art Gallery where the students read their works of writing as well as received their awards.
Winners received cash prizes generated from the Cynthia DeFord Adams scholarship endowment managed through the JCC Foundation.
Cynthia DeFord Adams was the first donor to the JCC Foundation. A Four Oaks native, she established a scholarship endowment to support literary writing in 1982.
