More than 37,000 students in Johnston County now have easier access to books and educational materials this summer thanks to a new program called StudentAccess.
The program allows Johnston County Public Schools students to use their Student ID number as a library card, giving them access to educational resources.
“StudentAccess is an amazing resource for our teachers and students. Not only does it expand the number of reading materials available, but it also gives access to these materials physically and digitally,” said Nicole Mellott, JCPS Academic Innovation Coordinator. “As our students begin their summer, StudentAccess gives them the opportunity to continue reading and learning throughout the break and beyond.”
In addition to accessing electronic resources and library databases, students may also borrow up to 10 print or audiobooks from the public libraries located in Benson, Four Oaks, Kenly, Princeton, Selma, or Smithfield as well as use library computers with their Student ID number.
StudentAccess is made possible through the State Library of North Carolina and is a partnership of Johnston County Public Schools and the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield.
“The StudentAccess program enables over 37,000 students and teachers the chance to utilize a tremendous amount of resources – from digital books to research materials to actual books, and more,” said Jeff Jennings, Chairman of the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield Board of Trustees. “This outstanding partnership with the State Library of NC, Johnston County Public Schools, and our county libraries shows how we can work together to benefit our growing county and provide a library that’s available 24 hours a day.”
