A Johnston County man is accused of using a receipt from a previous purchase to attempt to defraud the same store.
Smithfield Police allege the suspect, Mustafha George, 29, of North Sixth Street, Smithfield, went to the Nike Factory Outlet on Outlet Center Drive and made a $168 purchase and left with the merchandise.
Some time later, George allegedly returned to the store with the receipt, removed the identical items from the shelf and took them to a cashier and asked for a refund.
Officers were called to the business Saturday afternoon and arrested George while he was still at the scene. He was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony. He was transported to the Johnston County Jail and given a $20,000 bond on the offense.
